WordPress Front End Users Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Front End Users plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.2.30. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's forgot-password shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the forgot-password shortcode. The absence of proper input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes allows for the injection of scripts, which will be executed when the page is accessed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Front End Users plugin to version 3.2.31 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
