Accordion Slider Lite Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Accordion Slider Lite plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.5.1. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied attributes in the 'accordion_slider' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'accordion_slider' shortcode to create an accordion. By injecting a script into the shortcode's attributes, the script will be executed when the accordion is viewed, demonstrating the cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Remediation

No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and consider a replacement.
