GitLab Web IDE VSCode Fork Component Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in the gitlab-web-ide-vscode-fork component, distributed via CDN. This issue affects all versions prior to 1.89.1-1.0.0-dev-20241118094343. The vulnerability is present in all versions of GitLab CE/EE from 15.11 up to 17.3, and it temporarily impacted versions 17.4, 17.5, and 17.6. The XSS attack vector is triggered when .ipynb files are loaded in the web IDE.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for cross-site scripting attacks, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.
