Linux Kernel Wi-Fi Driver MT76 MT7921 A-MSDU TX Status Handling Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Wi-Fi driver for MediaTek MT76 MT7921 has been addressed. The issue involved a transmission (TX) status leak caused by missing acknowledgments for frames aggregated in A-MSDU. This omission could lead to some socket buffer (SKB) structures being retained in the driver, temporarily halting network activity. Although the problem could be mitigated by handling TX timeouts, the driver needed to be updated to disable TX status in A-MSDU to prevent the issue from recurring.

Impact

The vulnerability could cause a temporary disruption in network connectivity by allowing some SKBs to remain in the driver, effectively pausing network activity until the TX timeout was handled.

Remediation

Users can apply the latest patch available in the Linux kernel stable tree to address this vulnerability.
