A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Font Awesome WordPress plugin, affecting versions prior to 1.7.9. The issue arises because the plugin fails to properly validate and escape certain shortcode attributes before rendering them on pages or posts. This flaw enables users with contributor roles and above to inject malicious scripts that are executed when the content is viewed.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the content.
To reproduce this vulnerability, a user with a contributor role or higher can insert a shortcode with unescaped attributes, such as an 'onmouseover' event, into a post or page. Once published, the injected script will execute when the content is viewed.
Users are advised to update the WP Font Awesome WordPress plugin to version 1.7.9 or later.
