Linux Kernel Refcount Leak Vulnerability in Cpufreq Zynq Component

Vulnerability

A refcount leak vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's cpufreq component for Zynq devices. The issue arises in the 'zynq_get_revisionof_find_compatible_node()' function, which returns a node pointer with an incremented reference count. The missing 'of_node_put()' call to decrement the reference count when the pointer is no longer needed leads to the refcount leak.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability causes a memory management issue, specifically a reference count leak, which can potentially be exploited to manipulate memory access patterns or cause other memory-related issues.
