Linux Kernel Refcount Leak Vulnerability in ASoC Mediatek MT8173

Vulnerability

A refcount leak vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's ASoC Mediatek MT8173 component. The issue arises in the 'mt8173_rt5650_rt5676_dev_probeof_parse_phandle()' function, where a node pointer is returned with an incremented reference count. The vulnerability occurs because the function fails to release the reference properly using 'of_node_put()' when the node is no longer needed, leading to a memory management issue. This vulnerability has been addressed by fixing the missing 'of_node_put()' in the error handling paths.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to a refcount leak, causing memory management issues that may be exploited for arbitrary code execution or denial-of-service.
