Linux Kernel Chuwi Hi8 Touchscreen Issue with Windows BIOS
Vulnerability
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's handling of the Chuwi Hi8 tablet can disrupt touchscreen functionality when the device is using a Windows BIOS. The issue arises because the x86-android-tablets support for this model is only required with the Android BIOS. When the Windows BIOS is active, the system attempts to unregister an interrupt for the touchscreen, leading to a failure in touchscreen operation and causing a kernel error. This problem can be traced back to the way the BIOS version is managed during the initialization of the tablet's hardware.
Impact
The vulnerability causes a malfunction of the touchscreen interface on Chuwi Hi8 tablets running Windows BIOS, along with a kernel error that could potentially lead to a system crash.
Remediation
An initialization callback has been added for the Chuwi Hi8 that detects the presence of the Windows BIOS and appropriately disables the problematic x86-android-tablets handling, thereby restoring proper touchscreen functionality.
