Linux Kernel Framebuffer Driver sm712fb Denial-of-Service Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's framebuffer device (fbdev) subsystem, specifically within the sm712fb driver. When this driver writes three bytes to the framebuffer, it triggers a crash by causing a page fault. The issue arises from an improper handling of endianness, which has been addressed by removing the manual fixup code.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability leads to a crash of the sm712fb driver, causing a denial-of-service condition by disrupting normal framebuffer operations.
