WP Video Lightbox WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Video Lightbox WordPress plugin, affecting versions prior to 1.9.7. The issue arises because the plugin fails to properly validate and escape certain shortcode attributes before rendering them on the page. This flaw enables users with a minimum role of contributor to execute stored cross-site scripting attacks, potentially targeting high-privilege users such as administrators.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, use a shortcode with the 'video_lightbox_youtube' attribute, including a video ID and other parameters. Insert a script payload, such as 'alert(1)', into the 'width' attribute. When the shortcode is processed, the injected script will execute, demonstrating the cross-site scripting vulnerability.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the WP Video Lightbox WordPress plugin to version 1.9.7 or later.
