Vulnerability

A vulnerability allowing information disclosure through an unprotected alternative channel of return branch target prediction has been identified in some Intel processors. This issue may be exploited by an authorized user with local access.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized information disclosure.

Remediation

Affected Intel processors are advised to use enhanced Indirect Branch Restricted Speculation (eIBRS) to address this vulnerability, even if 'retpoline' mitigation is already deployed. Intel has released a technical paper describing the Restricted RSB Alternate (RRSBA) recommendation.
