OPNsense Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in OPNsense version 19.1. This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts by sending crafted payloads through the ignoreLogACL parameter. The injected JavaScript can be executed in the browsers of users who interact with the compromised proxy endpoint.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to the proxy endpoint with the ignoreLogACL parameter containing a crafted payload, such as a script tag with JavaScript code. This will trigger the cross-site scripting vulnerability by executing the injected script in the user's browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to update to OPNsense version 19.1.1, which addresses this vulnerability.
