WordPress Picture Gallery Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Picture Gallery – Frontend Image Uploads, AJAX Photo List plugin for WordPress. This issue affects all versions through 1.5.19 and arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. Authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher can exploit this vulnerability by injecting arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are then executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'videowhisper_pictures' shortcode. The absence of proper input sanitization and output escaping on the attributes provided by the user allows for the injection of scripts that will be executed when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Picture Gallery – Frontend Image Uploads, AJAX Photo List plugin to version 1.5.20 or later.
